Josh Lopez

Josh E. Lopez practices criminal defense in New Hanover and Pender counties. Mr. Lopez earned his Bachelor of Arts in Government from Campbell University, Juris Doctorate from Elon University School of Law, and Master of Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mr. Lopez represents clients facing serious felonies including Attempt First Degree Murder, Assault with Deadly with Intent to Kill, Second Degree Kidnapping, Serious Injury by Vehicle and Hit and Run Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. Furthermore, Mr. Lopez also represents clients faced with misdemeanor charges including Driving While Impaired (DWI), possession of marijuana or other drugs, breaking and entering, larceny and shoplifting, domestic violence matters including assault on a female, and underage drinking. Lastly, Mr. Lopez also handles traffic matters including, no operator’s license, driving while license revoked, careless and reckless driving, and speeding Mr. Lopez began practicing criminal defense in Guilford and Forsyth counties, primarily focusing on Driving While Under the Influence (DWI) defense as an Associate Attorney for J. Scott Smith – The author of “North Carolina DWI Defense: The Law & Practice.” Mr. Lopez then worked for the City of Wilmington and the Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization. Prior to joining The Shotwell Law Group, Mr. Lopez handled personal injury and workers’ compensation matters at Speaks Law Firm, where he settled over 175 cases, delivering over $1.6 million for his clients.
